If you consider yourself technologically savvy, you must keep yourself updated with the latest technical innovation on a daily basis. Wouldn’t it be easier and more fun to work and socialize with other technologically-inclined individuals when doing your computer work? No matter what your computer technology niche is, there are many San Diego user groups to join, learn, and share with.

The following list of user groups is not comprehensive. Groups may change names and/or locations as time passes by (updating themselves as the very technology the very promote). The San Diego Web Design Meetup Group

The massive Web Design Meetup Group in San Diego, founded in 2002, meets monthly to discuss all things related to graphic design, web design, programming, and web site promotion.

Final Cut Pro User Group (FCPUG)

FCPUG San Diego is part of the San Diego Macintosh User Group (SDMUG). Meetings take place the second Wednesday of each month. Final Cut Pro tips and tricks can be learned here, with many presentations led by local expert Tim Griffen.

San Diego Photoshop User Group

With over 2,000 members and counting, it is obvious how important and interesting networking can be, especially when using such a diverse media program as Adobe Photoshop. SD Photoshop meetings are held the first Saturday of each month at the aesthetic AI San Diego campus.

San Diego BSD User Group

Don’t let the name fool you, this is not a user group for OpenBSD. San Diego BSD is the San Diego Bentley Users Group. Their mission is to share information, techniques, and know-how on Microstation and other Bentley products with all San Diego architecture and engineering design professionals.

San Diego SolidWorks User Group

SolidWorks CAD users can unite every first Wednesday of the month with San Diego’s SolidWorks User Group. With SolidWorks always in use in the industry, there is no time like the present to share, network, and learn with other local SolidWorks users.

San Diego Apple Groups / Mac Groups

San Diego Macintosh User Group

The San Diego Macintosh User Group (SMUG) is a volunteer-driven, Apple-recognized association that meets every first Wednesday of the month. The group is dedicated to having fun teaching and sharing technology information and news.

Fun Fact: The non-profit Mac group has a local School Support Program with volunteers who are interested in helping return academic computer labs to the best condition possible, free of charge. Public or private, from K through 12.

Mac 101 SIG

True to the group’s name, Mac 101 SIG covers all the basics of computing when using a Macintosh computer. Examples of items covered are: Understanding your keyboard's features and connecting a printer to a Mac.

Oceanside Macintosh User Group

San Diego’s Oceanside Macintosh User Group is an all-encompassing computer user group that shares information on all programs compatible with Macs. You can learn information ranging from using Photoshop to how to create a podcast. General meetings are on the last Wednesday of each month.

San Diego IBM and Compatible Groups

San Diego PC User Group

Gain hands-on experience with the San Diego PC User Group during their workshops that take place the first and third Friday of each month. All programs, from tax software to art software, are covered by this long-standing local user group.

San Diego Computer Society

San Diego denizens have gained information and learned PC knowledge from the San Diego Computer Society since 1976. The team loves lending a hand and has a partnership with the San Diego County Office of Education to help schools.

Tri-City Computer Club of Oceanside

The Oceanside Tri-City Computer Club allows you to learn throughout the month. Covering all topics PC, general meetings are held every Tuesday (excluding a fifth Tuesday) of every month.

Founded in 1989, the Fallbrook PC User Group has facilitated a friendly environment while informing and educating the community about computer usage for years. Novices and experts alike abound. Meeting place: Fallbrook Public Utility District facility on East Mission Road in San Diego

Computer Language Groups

San Diego Java User Group

Interested in java? How about Java with a capital J? We’re not talking coffee, we’re talking about Sunmicrosystem’s programming language. Java, the drink, is optional. Join the Java group for updates on the language and when the next meeting minutes will be held.

San Diego Perl Mongers

If Perl is your pearl of computer languages, then San Diego Perl Mongers is the user group for you. Meetings, which are held the second Monday of every month, do not always stick with Perl and cover a variety of topics such as spam, wi-fi, and GPS.

Stay updated on all the latest info on Microsoft SQL Server technology through education, networking, and the sharing of information. The San Diego SQL User Group is an official affiliate of PASS (The Professional Association for SQL Server).

Operating System User Groups

San Diego OS/2 User Group

The revolutionary OS from the late 1980’s is still considered relevant and has a strong user base to this very day. San Diego OS/2 users have a group that meets every fourth Monday of each month with topics determined by member feedback.

San Diego Linux User Group

The popular open source OS Linux has a united backing even though mainstream America has yet to accept its use over Windows. The San Diego Linux Users Group is part of the San Diego Open-Source Software organization in San Diego and they meet the first Wednesday of every month to speak about Linux and other open source topics.

Kernel Panic Linux Users’ Group

The San Diego Kernel Panic Linux Users’ Group (KPLUG) is the largest and oldest Linux User group in the city. KPLUG offers several ways to share information on their love for Linux: General meetings, second Thursday of the month; study groups; first Thursday of the month; and Installfests/Techfests, Saturdays following the second Thursday of the month.

Professional/Educational User Groups

IEEE Computer Society of San Diego

San Diego State University is renowned for its engineering department. This is perhaps why the SDSU chapter of IEEE is the most active and successful student chapter in the south-western US. Every meeting features a guest speaker from the engineering industry and a free lunch.
