San Diego Television Shows

The Travel Channel’s "Sand Blasters”

Filmed annually on San Diego’s Pacific Beach, the Sand Blaster competition pits 8 teams of 2 against each other in the ultimate sand-sculpting fight. The sculptors create sand masterpieces but face the risk of their work being blasted by explosives. First and second place and Best Recovery awards are given to the top competitors.

ABC’s “Cavemen”

The concept for “Cavemen” is based on the popular Geico insurance commercial series that features a trio of sophisticated cavemen facing stereotypes from “saps” (homo sapiens) in the modern world. The show was originally set in Atlanta, Georgia, but was eventually moved to San Diego. Interestingly, cast members continue to speak in a southern accent. The show premiered on October 2, 2007.

Nickelodeon’s “Drake and Josh”

“Drake and Josh” stars Drake Bell and Josh Peck as two radically different stepbrothers forced to share a room together. Drake is the dumb, popular, and girl-crazy brother while Josh takes on the roll of the practical, unlucky-in-love geek. The show is in its final season but will continue to re-run on Nickelodeon and its sister station The N.

The CW’s “Veronica Mars”

“Veronica Mars” follows a young sleuth on her crime-solving adventures in the fictional town of Neptune. Kirsten Bell plays the title roll of Veronica, searching for her best friend’s murderer under the guidance of her detective father. The show was cancelled May 22, 2007, after three critically-acclaimed seasons.
